The SERN project is to develop a bottom up “movement” to Europeanise local and regional initiatives to support startups and young SMEs throughout exchange of experience and cooperation amongst European regions. The main goal of SERN is to fill a gap clearly felt by EU startups and young SMEs in terms of funding, while also addressing other relevant barriers to companies’ growth, such as harmonization of policies and regulations, access to talent and to major research infrastructures.
The network will map, benchmark, and contribute to improve or to setup new local policies, programmes and instruments for startup and SME support, in line with the priorities defined by the European Commission, the Interreg Europe Programme and the Committee of Regions, and for the benefit of
European SMEs’ competitiveness.
Belgium, Portugal, Spain and Sweden; eGovlab and the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth collaborated on the proposal.
